By Heather StabileCentered in the heart of Hollywood, the Hollywood and Highland Center became the site of was arguably LA’s biggest New Years Eve event. Taking up the whole 5th floors of the center, and hosted by AC Slater himself, Mario Lopez counted down the demise of 2011 and advent of 2012 with thousands of celebrities, VIPs, and beautiful guests ready to party. The stars were out and abound in the city, mingling with musical guests Cobra Starship and Lupe Fiasco, not to mention a dozen of celebrity DJs performing live sets including the likes of DJ Prophecy and Connor Cruise, Tom Cruises son.
Rocking the red carpet were an elegant spread of up and coming stars such as Christina Fulton, Kimberly Cole, Bryce Ross-Johnson, Damien McGinty from the Glee-project, and many more. Most openly talked about their New Year resolutions and what they have planned for 2012. Cobra Starship discussed their new single coming out from their 2011 album, “Night Shades”, making jokes the entire time. Lupe Fiasco and Bryce Ross-Johnson danced down the red carpet, moving to the beats of DJ Csquared, and continued moving while doing interviews.
When Cobra Starship took the stage just before the countdown they whipped the entire place into a frenzy, performing classic hits such as “You Make Me Feel” and “Send My Love to the Dancefloor” as well as newer songs like “One Night” and “Don’t Blame the World, it’s the DJs Fault”. Lupe Fiasco was a hit, performing his chart topping songs with ferocity and precision as he promoted Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album. While there were at times lulls in his set, overall the Big Bang was an explosive good time for all in attendance.
