Hootenanny 2012’s headliners closed the festival with a Bay Area hammer: The last act of the day on the main stage was none other than legendary punk rockers Rancid.
Primed and ready after a full day of waiting for the closers, the crowd was at first greeted on a somber note. Before beginning to play, frontman Tim Armstrong shared the news that his father had passed away the previous month. But he then shared the feeling that there was no place on Earth that he’d rather be than on that stage in front of Rancid fans. This message was met with thunderous approval.
Rancid launched into their first number and never let up, displaying fierceness and gusto as Tim flew into the crowd and the crowd tried to fly onto the stage.
