On Monday, Mayor Villaraigosa sign the Safer Sex in the Adult Industry Act, a landmark law requiring all adult film actors to wear condoms during all filmed intercourse. The city ordinance does not apply to filming that occurs on certified sound stages that don’t require film permits. The San Fernando Valley being the porn capital of the world, home to AVN and hundreds of other adult businesses, they could always chose to shoot in one of the many porn star’s mansions or L.A. County’s other 87 cities in unincorporated areas of the county.
Porn couple Eric John and Vicki Chase said this law does not apply to the areas where they film, including Erotique Studios. LA sexologist Dr Susan Block agrees, “Porn performers health is of top concern, but this new law will have pornographers pulling out – of LA!”
It will be interesting to see whether other porn producers utilize this loophole, adhere to this law, or relocate altogether.
