Erick Borboa has been called one of the most charismatic fixtures in LA nightlife. He was a man loved by everyone who had the privilege to know him. Unfortunately, Erick’s life was cut short when he was struck by a drunk driver last Thursday morning, December 12th, 2012. Erik was a well known, and extremely well liked member of the LA community.
Some knew Erick the musician.
Others knew Erick the DJ.
Others knew Erick the skateboarder.
Personally, I knew Erick the hero. I only knew Erick briefly, but the time I spent with him was memorable to say the least. My path crossed Erick’s when he was cast to play Jesus in a Belgium music video. That’s right, Jesus Christ.
Not only did Erick do a terrific job as an actor, he may have saved a man’s life on set. While filming the last scene of video, another crew member suddenly dropped to the floor and started convulsing. I had no idea what to do, so I ran outside and yelled “Someone’s having a seizure!” At which point Erick stopped in the middle of filming a scene and sprinted into the house. He immediately took charge, and knew exactly what to do. Everyone else on set was completely panicking except for Erick. He was calm, composed and stepped up to the plate when it mattered most. He was able to successfully bring the man back to a somewhat conscious level, ensuring his safety before paramedics arrived. Apparently Erick was not only a talented musician, skater, actor and friend; he was also well trained in emergency response to epileptic seizures.
While I may have only known Erick briefly, I can’t think of a better memory to have than that of him dressed as Jesus, crown of thorns and all, running into a room and saving a man’s life.
Erick was a great man, and he will be truly missed. Donations can be made to the Erick Borboa Memorial Fund.
